Our Pastor

Dr. Corey L. Brown is a native of Jacksonville, FL., and a product of the Duval County Public School System. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from Alabama A & M University in May 1994; received a Master of Divinity Degree from the Samuel Dewitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University in May 2002; Doctor of Ministry Degree from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio in December 2006.

Currently, Dr. Brown serves as the Pastor of Providence Baptist Church in Newport News, Virginia. Dr. Brown has implemented several ministries. "Happy Hour", a noon day bible study, provides the opportunity to take a break from your busy day to study and learn the word of God. "Higher Learning" is the tutoring ministry staffed by qualified teachers to assist students with their academic needs and prepare them for the collegiate level. "Joshua's Generation" is a ministry designed to train and develop potential leaders. "Sistas With Vision (SWV)" is a ministry for the women and "The Brother's Network (TBN)" is for the men of Providence. This is an opportunity to discuss issues pertaining to women and men in a biblical context.

Dr. Brown's ministry and vision is not contained within in the walls of Providence. This is evident with the implementation of " Christmas in June". "Christmas in June" is a ministry that meets the needs of the community by providing clothes, toiletries, small appliances, toys, books, and more.

He has served as the Minister of Christian Education at First African Baptist Church in Richmond, VA during the Pastorate of Rev. Dennis E. Thomas. He also served as Co-Director of Third Baptist Church's Summer Enrichment Program in Portsmouth, VA under the leadership of Pastor Joe B. Fleming.

Dr. Brown served as the Pastor of College and Young Adults at Bethel Baptist Institutional Church in Jacksonville, Florida where Dr. Rudolph W. McKissick, Sr. and Dr. Rudolph W. McKissick, Jr. serve as Senior Pastors.

Dr. Brown was honored to be chosen as the guest speaker at Virginia Legislative Black Caucus Interfaith Prayer Breakfast (2010)

He is married to the former Veronica Keene. They are the proud parents of two children, Sean and Michelle.

Foreword

So many times what we call devotionals in this day and time are nothing more than pop psychology and catchy phrases. Every once in a while, we stumble upon something that is much deeper and much more meaningful, because it is embedded in the only thing that can really offer us encouragement and uplift... the word of God. Such is "Emerge: Little By Little", written by Dr. Corey Brown. In this devotional you will find the mind of a scholar and the heart of a Pastor. His insight into the Holy Writ with everyday application will lift you and encourage you to continue to emerge to be the person that God has designed and destined you to be from the beginning of time. Emerging is something all of us are called to do. As we face the challenges of life, Dr. Brown helps us to see that these challenges are nothing more than tools of teaching used by God to help us further cultivate our identity in Him and reach for our Divine purpose.

Emerge: Little by Little - A 52 Week Devotional

God allows problems before He gives you the promise. He permits dilemmas before He takes you to destiny. The Lord allows you to deal with burdens because He wants to prepare you for where you’re headed. The problem is designed to work on your character. The challenge is designed to deal with your weakness. The opposition you are facing isn't meant to hurt you. It’s meant to develop you for your destiny.
